I made this using the Vue 8.5 PLE (hence the watermark). Started learning 30 days ago. If this were a real matte painting shot the background elements would probably be created using photography and projected, but I decided to try and make the whole image in Vue so I could learn more about the program.

Matte painting created for a film set on the moon. It was interesting to produce a painting with no atmospheric perpective or much colour.

Made from genuine moon photography and some paint work filling in the gaps and adjust lighting. 5 days work. Painted at 3k.

Comments and criticism very welcome.

A Faery's Child - Matte 12

'A Faery's Child' was a one minute animation project I worked on with Maeve Eydmann. Among other things I produced ten background paintings; some of them projected onto geometry.

The painting was created in Photoshop, and inspired by the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

I would love to hear comments and criticism!

Ibex - Sony Character Design Masterclass

This is Ibex, a game character created for the Sony SCEE Character Design Masterclass.

She's basically a horny pregnant woman...

... well, not really.

Sony asked for strong silhouette, visual metaphor and an appearance which fitted with one of their previous game titles.

I really learnt a lot about texturing and rendering whilst working on this, great fun!

I was inspired by one of my friends, who has a very interesting life and facial aesthetic. Sony's previous title had used actors for performance capture, and the actors' faces had influenced the game models. Me and my friend took photos and I modelled from these to obtain her likeness.

Vertex limit was 10,000, excluding weapons and hair.
4 512 x 512 colour, specular and bump maps.

I'd be pleased to answer any questions and really appreciate comments and criticism
My grandfather has fascinating skin, so I though he would make a good subject for a digital study of the human face. I suppose representing an old man in such detail using the digital medium is unusual since digital airbrush is most frequently used to disguise age and imperfection rather than draw attention to it.
